A cooling system does more than just help cool down the car during warmer seasons, it also helps keep fluids from freezing when it gets too cold! Although we don’t often have to worry about that here in Southern California, it is important to remember. The cooling system works to cool down essential car components in the engine that tend to overheat or have the potential to while in use. When you’re system is overdue for maintenance, your car is at the risk of overheating and total breakdown.
As we said earlier, checking the coolant helps to ensure your car won’t overheat. The coolants performance, like everything else, can diminish over time. It is made to protect, and when it starts to fail, you run the risk of rust and corrosion in your radiator. Not only that but when left alone for too long, the cooling system can become overwhelmed with deposits from oil and grease.
The frequency it’s changed varies from make to make. We recommend consulting your owner’s manual first, or coming in to have one of our technicians take a look. A general range is about every 30,000 miles, give or take.
